Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions people commonly have before installing Forge TV or setting up their own playlists.
Getting started
Is Forge TV free?
Forge TV is currently free to download and use, with no subscription or paid feature unlock needed. That could change in the future if ongoing development and maintenance require it; no future pricing has been announced. Optional donations support development.
Does Forge TV provide IPTV channels or subscriptions?
No. Forge TV is an IPTV player only. It does not include, sell or provide channels, streams, movies, TV shows or subscriptions. You must use your own legitimate M3U playlist or Xtream Codes service.
What devices does Forge TV support?
Forge TV is primarily designed for Android TV and Google TV boxes, sticks and televisions running Android 6.0 or later. It also offers interfaces for Android phones and tablets and can run on some compatible Android-based VR headsets.
Where do I download the app?
Use the Forge TV download page for the current APK or get releases from the GitHub releases page. Installation is via APK; it may require Android's permission to install apps from that source.
Playlists and playback
Can I use M3U and Xtream Codes?
Yes. Forge TV supports M3U links, M3U files and Xtream Codes logins. See the playlist setup guide for the supported methods and first steps.
Why is a channel buffering or not playing?
Playback depends on the source, network and device. For an Xtream Codes playlist, go to Settings → Playlists, open that playlist and try switching Live stream type to HLS. If an individual channel is still unavailable, the underlying stream may be offline.
Does catch-up or Start Over work with every playlist?
No. Catch-up and Start Over require support and available archive content from your playlist provider. Forge TV cannot provide programmes that the underlying source doesn't make available.
Can I use the app with a standard TV remote?
Yes. Forge TV is designed for directional-pad, OK and Back navigation. It also offers configurable shortcuts. See the remote-control guide for button functions and alternatives on remotes without coloured buttons.
Updates, privacy and feedback
How do app updates work?
Forge TV checks for a new release after launch and can prompt you to update. You can change update preferences or check manually under Settings → About. Published builds are also available through GitHub Releases.
Are my playlist details stored on the device?
Playlists, login information, favourites and guide data are kept on the device. Treat exported backup files as sensitive because they may contain your playlist credentials.
How do I suggest a feature or report a problem?
Use the feedback form. Include your device, app version and steps to reproduce an issue when possible, but never share passwords or playlist logins.
